Anyone can identify as a Christian, but not everyone can say they have a relationship with God. There is a big difference between being religious and having a relationship with God. a religious person practices religious acts but is very distant from god, while a person who has a relationship with god is always connected with god. If you have been having a hard time staying connected with God, in this post I am going to share the top 10 ways to stay connected with God every day. Use these tips to cultivate an intimate, deep, and lasting relationship with God, our father.

Reading: How to connect with god daily
what separates us from god?
Let’s quickly go back to the Garden of Eden: Genesis 3:8-10
8. and they heard the sound of the lord god walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the lord god among the trees of the garden. 9. Then the Lord God called Adam and said, “Where are you?” 10. then he said: “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because he was naked; and I hid.”
god’s intention & purpose
when god placed adam and eve in the garden of eden, he did not place them there simply to enjoy the beauty and fruits of the garden, but to have direct access to the presence of god. he placed them there with intent and purpose. Because God’s presence was in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were able to build, cultivate, and maintain a personal relationship with God. there were no barriers to connecting with god.
the weight of sin
However, when they sinned (read Genesis 3), that relationship was destroyed.
the scriptures say that they no longer wanted to be in the presence of god.
They were ashamed of their sin but instead of repenting, they hid from God. That’s what sin does: it produces shame and makes us turn away from God on our own.
god did not accuse, condemn or reject adam and eve so that they wanted to hide from him. but the weight and guilt of his sin made them leave his presence.
where are you?
which is why when god approached them, the first thing he asked them was:
“where are you?”
when we get away from god, he calls us and asks us: where are you?
regardless of the place, state and condition in which you currently find yourself, God asks you today: where are you? Are you near or far from my presence? are you really connected to me? he does not ask this to condemn you, but to bring you back into his presence.
god wants us to be connected with him, even when we feel unworthy.
other things that distance us from god
Before I get into the thick of this post, I want to quickly share a few other things that can also lead us away from God and we need to be careful about:
whether tempting us to sin, convincing us to give in to lust, distracting us with many earthly things (which may seem good in our eyes), putting ambition in our hearts, blaming god for the tragedies that occur, disappointing us, or filling the heart of bitterness, the devil will always try to find a way to take us away from god.
That’s why we have to keep our eyes open and fixed on Christ.
yes, we will be bombarded with many things to get away from god. however, god has equipped us with weapons to fight against all attacks from the enemy.
Below, I’m going to share 10 different ways to stay connected to God (even when you don’t want to)

10 BEST WAYS TO STAY CONNECTED TO GOD
1. intentional sentence
The number 1 most important habit to have as a Christian is prayer.
There is absolutely no way for you to stay connected to God and build a strong, personal relationship with God without prayer. how can you maintain a relationship with someone without even talking to them? the more you talk to someone, the more you know them. and the more you know them, the more comfortable you feel with them.
prayer is the best way to know god in a more intimate way.
So if you’ve been having trouble staying connected to God every day, I suggest you set aside some time every day to just pray to God. You can start your day with prayer, find a time in the morning to pray, pray to God at night, or end your day with prayer. There is no right or wrong time to pray to God! I personally prefer to start my day with prayer, but any time that works for you is fine too, as long as you are able to stay consistent.
2. read the scriptures
reading the bible every day is essential to maintain a strong bond with god. when you pray, you speak to him. but when you read the bible, god speaks to you.
So, to keep that communication strong, you have to read the bible.
You don’t have to read the bible for hours, but you should get in the habit of making some time to read the bible every day. you can set aside some time during the day to sit down and read the bible or you can take a bible with you and read it whenever you get the chance.
One thing I’ve found very helpful is having my bible with me in my office. Whenever I have some free time (even if it’s just 5 minutes), I can easily reach for my bible, read the scriptures, and stay connected with God throughout the day.
3. worship god
another great and fun way to stay connected to god is through worship.
you can worship god with psalms, praise songs or normal christian music.
i prefer listening to christian music than secular music because by doing this i can keep my mind, heart and emotions focused on god. this is a personal conviction of mine (I can definitely talk more about this in another post).
plus if you find the right christian artists, bands and songs, you won’t even miss listening to secular music. if you don’t know any, I’ll introduce some below!

4. involve god in everything
Although this one is pretty straightforward, I’m going to quickly explain what it looks like to involve god in everything you do.
involving god in everything you do is simply making god present in every situation of your life: personal life, decisions, work, hobbies, goals, thoughts and habits.
This does not mean that you will be praying or reading the bible all day.
making god present in your life is being able to live your life without disconnecting from god. You shouldn’t just stay connected to God when you’re at church, reading the Bible, praying, or doing godly things. your connection with god must transcend religious activities. So whether you’re working, shopping, exercising, traveling, cooking, or relaxing, stay connected to God by keeping him in your mind and heart.
5. consume Christian content
Our thoughts, habits and attitudes are greatly influenced by the things we consume in our daily lives. So let me ask you: what are you currently consuming?
Are you consuming content that is helping you grow as a Christian? Or are you consuming content that is destroying your relationship with God?
Believe it or not, the content you consume can affect your life in a negative or positive way. That’s why I suggest consuming as much Christian content as you can on a daily basis! If you don’t know where to start, here are some ideas:
- listen to christian podcasts
- watch christian youtubers
- listen to christian music
- watch christian movies
- follow christian accounts on social networks
- read Christian books
- watch Christian tiktoks
6. serve god
one of the best ways to maintain a constant connection with god is through service. serving god is a great way to practice what you learn from the scriptures and demonstrate god’s love to others. there are so many ways to serve god. Whether it’s taking on a role in your church, providing any type of service to someone in need, sharing God’s word on different platforms, or simply showing God’s love to someone, you can use the gifts God has given you to put the word of god in action !
for me, being very active in my church (preaching, opening worship, serving with young adults via zoom, etc.) and sharing god’s word on my platforms has really helped me stay connected with god . serving god has not only helped me stay connected to god as i always have to be prepared to participate in church and post on social media, but it has also encouraged me to be an example to those around me. I’m still far from perfect (I make tons of mistakes every day), but I’m definitely more aware and careful about how I behave now than I was before. Although no one will be saved by their works, I strive to honor God’s name with my works.
let your light so shine before men, so that they may see your good deeds, and glorify your father who is in heaven. — Matthew 5:16
If you’ve never practiced serving before, I highly recommend it. try to get involved in your church, reach out to those less fortunate, pray for those in trouble, and offer help.
7. spending time in nature
one of my favorite places to spend time with god is in nature.
there is nothing like talking to god while taking a walk, reading the bible during a nice picnic, worshiping god outdoors, etc.! there are an endless amount of fun things you can do in nature. but involving god in those things changes everything.
go on nature dates with jesus!
8. express gratitude
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “in everything give thanks; For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Practicing gratitude helps you appreciate what God has done for you and what he is currently doing for you. Although there is so much to thank God for each day, it can be easy to lose track of all the blessings in your life when you don’t practice gratitude.
more Bible verses on gratitude:
- Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but let your requests be made known to God in all prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving
- 1 Chronicles 16:8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord! call on his name; make his deeds known among the peoples!
- Psalm 95:2 Oh, give thanks to the Lord! call on his name; make his deeds known among the peoples!
You can express gratitude to God through prayer, creating a gratitude list, or sharing what God has done in your life with others.
9. talk to god
although i mentioned the importance of building an intimate relationship with god through prayer earlier, i want to touch on talking to god one more time.
As I said before, you can set aside some time during the day to pray to God.
however, you should not limit the time you talk to god to 1, 2 or 3 times. You can have a specific time for prayer, but you must be talking to God throughout the day.
you can talk to god in your mind while:
- take transportation
I like to talk to God randomly during the day and express my feelings, concerns, projects and emotions. this helps me to get rid of worries and also to stay connected with god. keeping in touch with god every day is very important.
10. do pious activities
there are so many fun activities you can do to stay connected with god!
These are some of my favorites:
- bible journaling
- christian arts & crafts
- create christian paintings (bible verses, bible characters/stories)
- christian bullet journaling
hope you found these 10 easy ways to stay connected with god helpful! let me know in the comments below which idea you liked the most. Also, feel free to share ways you like to spend your time with God.
I send you blessings & love,
let’s keep in touch!
