How to connect multiple twinkly lights

When you have multiple sets of twinkling lights, grouping them together allows you to fully synchronize your lighting display. You can group the twinkling lights in three different ways: join them so they become a single virtual device, synchronize them so that each set of twinkling lights displays the same effect, or group by area, which is where screens present numerous flashing devices in a larger scene.

how to create twinkly join groups

joining groups allows you to sequentially apply effects to your group of lights, effectively spreading the lights to form a single virtual chain of lights.

A perfect example of this would be if you had more than one set of twinkling lights on a large tree.

  1. navigate to the ‘devices’ menu in the twinkly app
  2. add all twinkly devices to the same wifi network and make sure they are all turned on
  3. click on the icon link
  4. select the ‘join’ option
  5. choose the devices you want to add to the group
  6. give the group a name; then it should appear in the device list
  7. select the new group
  8. go to the ‘layout’ menu and map the whole group of lights

how to create twinkly sync groups

sync groups allow you to apply the same effects to two or more strings simultaneously: the applied effects will be synced.

A perfect example of this would be if you had twinkle on two adjacent trees and wanted them to match.

  1. navigate to the ‘devices’ menu in the twinkly app
  2. make sure all twinkly devices are powered on and have already been assigned individually
  3. click the link icon
  4. select the ‘synchronize’ option
  5. choose the devices you want to add to the group
  6. name the group; then it should appear in the list of devices
  7. select the new group and you’re done

how to create groups/scenes of twinkling areas

Area groups (also known as scenes) are groups of lights arranged in extended sets, effectively spreading the lights to form a single virtual string of lights.

A perfect example of this would be if you had more than one set of twinkling lights on a large tree.

  1. navigate to the ‘devices’ menu in the twinkly app
  2. make sure all twinkly devices are turned on
  3. click the link icon
  4. select the ‘area’ option
  5. choose the devices you want to add to the group
  6. select the ‘area’ group type:
    • area editor: This option allows you to configure your individual devices exactly as they are placed. the editor allows you to change the zoom, rotation and finally the size of your design. after customizing, select ‘save’.
    • camera mapping: use the smartphone camera to map the group (2d option only).
    • vertical (iOS only): select individual devices starting from the highest (for example, the top of the tree) to the lowest (base of the tree).
    • horizontal (for ios only): select individual devices from left to right.
