If you’re the kind of person who always loses the remote, you can ask Alexa to turn on your TV, find something to watch, turn up the volume, and more. All you need is an Alexa device and a smart TV or streaming device, and you can control your TV without touching the remote. Here’s how to connect Alexa to your TV and the voice commands you can use to control your TV hands-free.

Note: These steps will only work with select Smart TVs, streaming devices, cable subscriptions, and other services.

To connect alexa to your TV, open the alexa app and go to more > settings > television and amplifier; video. then choose your content or service provider from the list and touch link or enable. then follow the onscreen instructions to link your tv to your alexa devices.

  2. Then tap TV & Video. You will find this under Alexa Preferences by scrolling down the page.
  3. Next, select your content or service provider. For example, if you have a Roku TV, select Roku. If you have a Fire TV Stick streaming device, select Fire TV.   4. Then tap Link or Enable. This will be different depending on which content or service provider you choose.

    Note: Depending on what kind of TV or service provider you have, you might have to log in or follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your TV. For example, when connecting to a Roku TV or streaming device, you will have to sign in to your Roku account. If you are connecting to a Dish TV, you will have to go into your TV’s settings and enter the code that appears on your screen in the Alexa app.

  5. Next, select the TV that you want to connect Alexa to and tap Continue.
  6. Then choose which Alexa devices you want to control your TV and tap Link Devices.AAA
  7. Finally, select Return to… This will take you to a screen with a few Alexa commands that you can use to control your TV.

Once you’ve connected your TV to your Alexa devices, you can use voice commands to turn the TV on and off, change the volume, play or pause a movie, and more. all you have to do is say “alexa”, followed by the command, and finally say the name of your TV or service provider.

  • “alexa, turn on [TV name]”. or “Alexa, turn off [TV name]”. These commands turn your TV on or off.
  • “alexa, go home to [TV name]”. This will instantly take you to the home screen of your TV, streaming device, or service.
  • “Alexa, turn down the volume on [TV name].” This command lowers the volume on your TV.
  • “Alexa, mute/wake [TV name]”. mute/unmute your TV.
  • “alexa, play/pause/resume/stop [name of TV]”. control playback on your device.
  • “alexa, open hulu tv/netflix/etc.” this will open the streaming devices you are subscribed to.
  • “alexa, fast forward/reverse [TV name]”. fast forward or rewind the video you are watching.
  • “alexa, search for comedy/drama/horror movies on [TV name]”. This will allow you to browse movies by genre.
  • “Alexa, play ‘tropic thunder’/’man in the high castle’ on [TV name].” strong> this will immediately start playing a movie or TV show. however, you may need to use a remote to sign in to your streaming service before you can start playing certain videos.
  • “alexa, change the input to hdmi1/xbox.” change your tv input to hdmi1 or xbox, if you have it connected.
